Family kundli: your family's charts, side by side
Add everyone in your family and see their charts together. You see each person's Moon sign, nakshatra and rising sign, what the family shares, and whether that is more or less than chance would give. Then Sade Sati and Saturn's two shorter stretches for everyone over the next fifteen years, on one line, so you can see whose years overlap.
Date and place of birth for each person, two to eight people. Add birth times if you know them: they give the nakshatra, the rising sign and the mahadasha. Names stay on your device.
What is a family kundli?
A kundli is a birth chart. Many Indian families keep one for everyone, in a drawer or a phone gallery, and look at them one at a time. A family kundli puts them on one page. For each person you see:
- the Moon sign (rashi), the nakshatra and the Vedic Sun sign
- the rising sign (lagna) and the mahadasha running now, when you add a birth time
- Sade Sati, Ashtama Shani and Kantaka Shani over the next fifteen years
Then what two or more of you share, and the years two of you are in Sade Sati at the same time.
Kundli matching compares two people for marriage and ends in a score. This compares a whole family, and gives no score.
Do families share signs more than chance?
Two people share a Moon sign about 1 time in 12, because the Moon spends about the same time in every sign. They share a nakshatra 1 time in 27, and a Sun sign or a rising sign about 1 time in 12.
A family of four has six pairs, so chance alone gives about one or two shared signs between you. We count your family's and put the chance figure beside it. Some families share more than chance gives, some fewer.
Either way, it says nothing about how close you are. It is a fun count, and an honest one.
What does a shared Moon sign or nakshatra mean?
Classical astrology names the Moon the mind. In our reading, two people with the same Moon sign tend to feel things the same way: the same things unsettle them, and the same things settle them. That can make them easy company, or too alike to calm each other down.
The nakshatra is the Moon's star at birth, one of 27. It also decides the planet whose years you were born in, your first mahadasha. Two people born in the same planet's years live their mahadashas in the same order, years apart. That happens 1 time in 9.
When one person's rising sign is another's Moon sign, the first shows the world the sign the second feels from. In our reading, that tends to feel familiar from the start.
Why do Sade Sati years overlap in a family?
Sade Sati is the seven and a half years Saturn spends in the sign before your Moon sign, on it, and in the sign after. It is a long-held tradition, read as a slower stretch that asks for patience. Ashtama Shani (Saturn in the 8th sign from your Moon) and Kantaka Shani (the 4th) are two shorter stretches of about two and a half years, together called Dhaiya.
Saturn takes about two and a half years over each sign. So people with the same or neighbouring Moon signs go through Sade Sati at the same time, and a family often has two people in it together.
It helps to know the years. One person's slow year is easier when someone else in the house is carrying less.
Do I need everyone's birth time?
No, but it helps. A date and a place give each person's Sun sign, and Saturn's stretches when the Moon sign is clear. A birth time adds the nakshatra, the rising sign and the mahadasha.
The Moon moves fast. It changes sign on a little under half of all days, and changes nakshatra almost every day. So without a time we show the Moon at noon, say on that person's card that the time decides, and leave them out of that count.

Open the sample readingWhat is a family kundli?
It is every birth chart in a family, read together. It shows each person's Moon sign, nakshatra and rising sign, what the family shares, and when Sade Sati falls for each of you over the next fifteen years.
Is a family kundli the same as kundli matching?
No. Kundli matching (guna milan) compares two people for marriage and gives a score out of 36. A family kundli compares two to eight people and gives no score. It shows what you share and whose Saturn years overlap.
Can it tell us who will have a hard year?
It shows when the tradition's slower stretches, like Sade Sati, fall for each person, as dates. It does not say what will happen in them. That rests with each person.
Do you keep our names or birth details?
No. The names never leave your device. Birth dates, times and places are sent to work out the charts and are not kept. The family is saved in your browser only, so it is there next time on the same device, and one tap forgets it.
