Learn: Vedic astrology, in plain words

Guides to the questions people bring to Vedic astrology, one at a time. Each one answers first, says where the idea comes from, and says plainly what it can’t tell you.

Start with whichever question brought you here. Every guide ends with a free tool to check it against your own chart.

How these guides are written

Each guide gives the answer in the first lines, then the reason. Where classical astrologers held something, we say so. Where an idea is modern, or only a popular tradition, we say that too.

Nothing here is a prediction. A chart shows what tends to happen, and you are the one who checks it against your life.

What is the difference between Vedic and Western astrology?

The biggest one is how the signs are counted. Western astrology counts them from the seasons, Vedic astrology from the stars, and today the two counts sit about 24 degrees apart. So most people’s Vedic sign is the one before their Western sign.

Do I need my birth time?

For your Sun sign, no. For your rising sign and the houses, yes: they change every two hours or so. Each tool says which details it needs.
